Tesla, BYD to launch new SUVs to boost Japan’s EV market

Tesla and BYD plan to introduce electric SUVs in Japan this April, aiming to boost the country’s struggling EV market.

Tesla will introduced its Model Y, which offers a range of up to 635 kilometers and features eight cameras to assist with driving tasks like highway lane changes.

BYD is set to release its Sealion 7 SUV, offering a range of up to 590 kilometers. This model includes a touch panel for managing functions like windows, trunk access, and air conditioning.

Despite this new releases, Japan’s EV adoption remains low, with only about 60,000 units sold in 2024, a 33% decline from the previous year.

EVs account for just 1.3% of total automobile sales in the country.
