Shares of Tencent Holdings Ltd rose 3.5% in Hong Kong, marking its first weekly gain in months.

This increase followed the announcement of a new gifting function on Tencent’s popular WeChat platform ahead of the holiday season.

The gifting feature allows users to send gifts priced under 10,000 yuan (US$1,370), excluding jewelry and educational services.

This update also spurred gains for associated companies, including Weimob Inc, which saw a 23% increase.
