Tencent invests $30m in HK early cancer detection firm

Tencent has invested US$30 million in Insighta, a Hong Kong-based early cancer detection firm.

This funding elevates Insighta’s valuation to US$200 million and decreases its parent company Prenetics’ ownership from 50% to 35%, allowing Insighta’s co-founders to maintain a 50% stake.

The funding will improve Prenetics’ cash reserves, which now exceed US$90 million.

Insighta employs its proprietary Fragma technology in its cancer detection platform, engineered to identify DNA methylation anomalies in cell-free DNA from blood and other bodily fluids.

This non-invasive and precise method can detect various cancers early by identifying distinctive fragment patterns associated with malignancies.
