Tencent Cloud signs fintech deal with CITIC bank
Tencent Cloud signed a cooperation agreement in Hong Kong on June 18 with China CITIC Bank International (CNCBI), a Hong Kong-based commercial bank and a unit of CITIC Group.
The agreement aims to support the bank’s FinTech 2.0 strategy in Hong Kong and Macao.
The partnership covers cloud services, AI, risk control, internal operations, customer services, and exploring a new core banking architecture.
CNCBI said it serves as the offshore commercial banking platform of CITIC Group.
The bank operates 21 branches, two business banking centers, and one private banking center in Hong Kong, as well as branches in Macao, Singapore, and the United States.
The agreement appears to extend CNCBI’s existing digital agenda.
The bank had previously said it would continue to improve its FinTech capabilities, though the available material did not identify any earlier core banking modernization or replacement project.
For Tencent Cloud, the agreement adds to its Hong Kong financial services presence. The company has also referenced work with Bank of East Asia on modernizing infrastructure.
