Tencent’s Tesla deal fits a wider automotive plan

• Tencent Cloud teamed with Tesla to add WeChat-linked features to Model 3 and Model Y in China, aiming to supply tech to automakers rather than build cars 1.
• The work is nonexclusive. Nearly 40 auto brands, including BMW, already use Tencent’s “Intelligent Automobile Cloud” to tailor vehicles for China 2.
• The in-car features match Tencent’s vehicle software push through Tencent Auto Intelligence (TAI), including “WeScenario,” a light-app ecosystem built on WeChat Mini Programs (mini apps that run inside WeChat without a separate download) 3.

WeChat is being built into a transportation hub
