Tencent backs Chinese robotics firm Agibot in funding round
Tencent Holdings has joined an investment round for Agibot, a Shanghai-based humanoid robotics startup, alongside Lanchi Ventures, Longcheer Technology, Wolong, and Zhuhai Huafa Group.
Agibot, officially Zhiyuan Robotics, did not disclose the funding amount, but corporate database Tianyancha reports its registered capital rose from 76.37 million yuan (US$11.1 million) to 80.46 million yuan (US$11.08 million).
Humanoid robotics is a growing investment focus in China, attracting tech firms and venture capital.
Agibot has gained recognition partly due to its founders, including Peng Zhihui, a former Huawei employee, and Yan Weixin, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
