Temasek stays bullish on AI despite heavy infrastructure spending

Singapore state investor Temasek said that it remains optimistic about AI and is not worried about heavy spending by large cloud companies on chips and data centers.

Speaking at an investment event in the US, Temasek North America head Jane Atherton said the companies funding AI infrastructure have some of the strongest balance sheets in the world and expect returns that justify the risks as AI adoption rises.

Temasek has overall holdings valued at about US$400 billion and owns stakes in OpenAI and Anthropic. Earlier this year, the firm said it planned to raise AI investments from about 6% of its portfolio to as much as 15% over the next five years.

Atherton also said AI safety should be addressed by governments and the companies developing the technology.
