Temasek investment report lifts Samsung, SK hynix shares
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix briefly extended gains to more than 8%, while South Korea’s Kospi rose as much as 5.1%.
The gains followed a report that Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings was considering the timing of its investments in two South Korean chipmakers through its internal investment team.
Temasek first invested in both Samsung Electronics and SK hynix more than two years ago, according to Temasek spokesperson.
The report added to a rebound in AI memory stocks.
SK hynix held 62% of the high-bandwidth memory market in Q2 2025, while Samsung had 17%, according to cited figures.
Temasek is not new to semiconductor-related deals.
The investor previously joined a US$380 million funding round in Nearfield Instruments, a Netherlands-based maker of tools for semiconductor production.
If Temasek were to build a listed stake of 5% or more, South Korean rules would likely require disclosure within five business days of the trade date.
Hopes for shareholder returns were another driver.
SK hynix has a FY2025-2027 shareholder return policy and said it would disclose further details in the third quarter.
