Temasek eyes reorganizing into three investment units: sources

Temasek Holdings is considering a major reorganization that could divide the Singaporean state investor into three separate investment arms, sources told Bloomberg.

The proposed structure would create units for domestic holdings, overseas investments, and fund management.

The plan is still under discussion and may change, according to people familiar with the matter.

Temasek’s portfolio value reached S$434 billion (US$338 billion) as of March 31, but its 10-year annualized shareholder return of 5% matched its peer GIC and lagged the MSCI World Index’s 10% over the same period.

If implemented, the reorganization would mark one of the most significant changes at Temasek in years, and could see key executives take charge of the new units.

A formal announcement could come in the next few months, while the new chairman, Teo Chee Hean, will start in October.
