Temasek boosts public equity investments in strategy shift
Temasek Holdings has increased its investments in public equities over the past 18 months, CEO Dilhan Pillay said at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore.
The state-owned investment firm managed S$434 billion (US$336 billion) in assets as of March 31.
Pillay noted this shift marks a departure from Temasek’s usual focus on absolute returns, as the firm pursues an “active alpha” strategy to strengthen its public market capabilities.
Temasek has also made record divestments of S$42 billion in its last fiscal year, reducing the share of private assets in its portfolio below public holdings for the first time in four years.
The company reported a 10-year annualized total shareholder return of 5%, trailing the MSCI World Index’s 10% return over the same period.
Temasek plans to reorganize its portfolio from April 1, creating three entities to focus on global direct investments, Singapore-based companies, and capital allocation for fund investments.
