The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), a nonprofit based in Washington, has expressed concerns about South Korea’s ban on exporting high-precision map data.

The CCIA stated that these restrictions hinder international providers from competing fairly with local companies.

The organization noted that the Korean government has not approved any export applications for such map data from foreign firms.

This impacts US mapping service providers and threatens an estimated US$130.5 million in annual revenue from the Korean market.

In addition to the map data issue, the CCIA criticized South Korea’s Cloud Security Assurance Program (CSAP), saying it creates barriers for US cloud service providers.
