TDK, Accel set to back India’s EtherealX in $21m series A: sources
EtherealX, an Indian startup developing a reusable medium-lift launch vehicle, is close to raising about US$21 million in a series A funding round co-led by TDK Ventures and BIG Capital, with Accel also set to join, according to sources.
Founded in 2022 and based in Bengaluru, EtherealX is building the Razor Crest Mk-1, a rocket designed to deliver up to eight tonnes to low Earth orbit and support other orbital missions.
The round was initially targeted at US$15 million but has grown due to investor demand.
Sources said EtherealX recently secured US$130 million in contracts from six customers for its launch services.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
India’s new spaceport creates a tight timeline for EtherealX’s 2027 debut
- EtherealX targets early 2027 for its first launch 1, but the Kulasekarapattinam site (ISRO’s second spaceport in Tamil Nadu for Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)-class vehicles and Non-Government Entity launches 2) is planned for commissioning in fiscal year (FY) 2026–27 3.
- The startup has secured 16 acres in Tamil Nadu and plans to make it operational early next year 1. This raises risk because facilities must mesh with a government spaceport under construction, which requires approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) plus technical integration that can stretch schedules.
- TechCrunch’s sources put contracts at $130 million 1. EtherealX has not posted Stallion hot-fire test data on its site (a ground firing of a rocket engine) 4, so the 2027 goal depends on formal IN-SPACe approvals and technical milestones.
Ground suppliers can time Tamil Nadu investments to spaceport milestones
- Kulasekarapattinam construction began in March 2025 5. Suppliers of industrial gases, precision machining, and test services should time capacity expansions before commissioning targeted for FY 2026–27 3.
- A southern launch corridor over the Indian Ocean improves polar orbit efficiency 5. That could attract constellation operators and spur demand for ground segment providers (companies that run Earth-based tracking stations plus data relay networks) along this path.
- EtherealX’s planned footprint in Tamil Nadu 1 plus the spaceport forms a cluster. Shared sites for propellant storage, transport logistics, and testing can lower per-launch costs for multiple operators.
