Tata Electronics, Japan’s Rohm partner on chip production in India

Rohm, a Japanese semiconductor and electronics manufacturer, and Tata Electronics, an Indian electronics and semiconductor manufacturer, have formed a strategic partnership to manufacture semiconductors in India for local and global markets.

The two companies will initially collaborate on building a manufacturing framework for power semiconductors by combining Rohm’s leading device technologies with Tata Electronics’ back-end manufacturing capabilities.

Tata Electronics will begin assembling and testing Rohm’s India-designed automotive-grade Nch 100V, 300A Si MOSFET in a TOLL package, with mass production targeted for next year.

Both firms will also look into developing new packaging technologies together.

The partnership is expected to expand semiconductor business opportunities in India and aims to strengthen the supply chain for both companies.
