Taiwan’s industrial growth fueled by tech, AI in 2024

Taiwan’s industrial production grew in 2024, the first increase after two years of decline, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The industrial production index rose by 11.45% year-on-year, with December alone showing a 19.97%.

The manufacturing sub-index surged by 20.79% in December, driven by demand for AI, high-performance computing (HPC), and cloud data processing applications, as well as pre-Lunar New Year inventory preparations.

However, traditional industries like base metals, chemicals, and automotive saw declined due to overcapacity in China and weakened export orders.

Looking ahead, Taiwan’s manufacturing sector performance will depend on China’s economic recovery and global supply chain trends shaped by US policies.

Despite these uncertainties, the ministry is confident in the adaptability of Taiwanese businesses.
