Taiwan’s economy grows on AI, tech demand amid uncertainty
Taiwan’s economy showed strong growth in December 2024, driven by high demand for AI applications and high-performance computing (HPC) devices, according to the National Development Council (NDC).
The NDC’s composite index rose by four points to reach 38, indicating an “overheated” economy for the third time in 2024.
Industrial production and manufacturing sales contributed strongly to the growth, while retail and food service revenues showed moderate increases.
However, the NDC noted a mixed outlook: coincident indicators rose by 0.61%, while leading indicators dropped by 0.76%, signaling uncertainty ahead.
