Taiwanese cloud provider Wiwynn reports 62% revenue growth

Taiwan cloud computing equipment supplier Wiwynn said after its annual general meeting that strong demand for AI applications and data centers should support growth this year after first-quarter revenue rose 62% year on year to NT$276.5 billion (US$8.79 billion).

The increase was driven by shipments of graphics processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU), and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) platforms, as well as server and storage products.

CEO and president William Lin said AI servers made up about half of Wiwynn’s revenue last year, but that share could dip slightly this year as demand for general-purpose servers increases.

Chairwoman Emily Hong said transitions between ASIC platforms and related yield issues could create pressure in the second half of this year.

Lin also said shortages of memory chips, high-end printed circuit boards (PCBs), CPUs, multilayer ceramic capacitors, and power-related components continue to weigh on the AI server industry.

Wiwynn, a Wistron-backed cloud infrastructure provider based in Taiwan, said Nvidia GPUs remained important for AI training applications.

Large cloud service providers were also developing their own ASICs for AI infrastructure.
