Taiwan weighs support on chips amid US tariff proposal
Taiwan is evaluating measures to support its domestic industry following US President Donald Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs on imported semiconductors.
Premier Cho Jung-tai said the government will assess whether cooperative plans or assistance programs are needed.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a key player in the industry supplying firms like Apple and Nvidia, declined to comment on the latest developments.
The company has expanded its US investments to US$65 billion, up from the US$12 billion plan announced in 2020.
