Taiwan tech debt deals hit record $14.5b on AI
Taiwanese tech firms have completed a record US$14.5 billion in debt deals so far in 2026 to fund AI-related capacity, procurement, and expansion, up from US$7.5 billion a year earlier.
Loans accounted for US$6.2 billion of the total, while convertible bonds made up US$5.9 billion, and corporate notes US$2.4 billion.
Server builders and chip component makers have been raising capital as needs for working capital, procurement, and factory expansion grow.
Hon Hai Precision Industry, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer also known as Foxconn, plans to sell up to US$1.5 billion in convertible bonds to help fund overseas materials procurement.
That follows a US$1.1 billion-equivalent loan it raised in February.
Taiwanese tech firms are central to the AI supply chain.
However, the claim that the island’s electronics manufacturing services companies assemble more than 90% of the world’s AI servers was not supported.
Despite the fundraising surge, AI-related investments still face risks, including geopolitical tensions and changing trade policies that could disrupt capital flows.
