Taiwan stocks hit record as TSMC climbs to all-time high

Taiwan’s stock market hit a record high on October 3, lifted by gains in semiconductor and AI-related shares.

The Taiex index closed up 1.5% at 26,761.1, with turnover reaching NT$463.1 billion (US$15.2 billion).

TSMC, Taiwan’s largest contract chipmaker, rose 2.6% to a new closing high of NT$1,400 (US$46.08), driving much of the index’s rise.

MediaTek, a smartphone chip designer, climbed 3.1%, while memory chipmakers Winbond and Nanya Technology posted gains of 7.8% and 4.1%, respectively.

Quanta Computer and Wistron, both involved in AI server manufacturing, also advanced, while Hon Hai Precision Industry, an iPhone assembler and AI server supplier, saw a modest uptick.

Financial stocks also edged down, with Fubon Financial dropping 1%.
