Taiwan smartphone lens maker reports record Q4 profit
Largan Precision Co., a major supplier of smartphone camera lenses, reported a Q4 2024 net profit of NT$8.68 billion (around US$262 million), reflecting a 74.5% year-on-year increase and the company’s highest quarterly profit to date.
Its earnings per share reached NT$65.01 (around US$1.96).
The company posted a gross margin of 59.14% for the quarter, an increase from 50.21% in the previous quarter, marking the highest in over three years.
Chairman Adam Lin attributed the positive performance to an improved product portfolio, better yield rates, performance bonuses, and a weaker Taiwan dollar against the US dollar.
In Q4, higher-margin lenses of 20 megapixels and above made up 20-30% of sales, with 10-20-megapixel lenses representing 60-70%.
For the year 2024, Largan’s net profit totaled NT$25.92 billion (around US$782.8 million), representing a 45% increase from the previous year.
Lin expects sustained shipment momentum in Q1 2025 but cautioned that gross margins may dip.
