Taiwan proposes $10b budget to tackle US tariffs

Taiwan’s Premier Cho Jung-tai has proposed a budget of T$322 billion (US$10 billion) to mitigate the economic effects of United States tariffs.

This proposal increases the total aid package to T$410 billion (US$12.61 billion), which includes financial support for businesses, measures to stabilize the job market, and electricity subsidies.

It follows the temporary suspension of 32% US tariffs on Taiwanese goods, which were originally set to take effect two weeks ago but were paused for 90 days by US President Donald Trump.

The proposed budget must be approved by Taiwan’s parliament, where opposition parties currently hold a majority.
