Taiwan probes ex-TSMC executive over alleged Intel secret leaks

Taiwanese prosecutors have searched the homes of Lo Wen-jen, a former senior executive at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), as part of an investigation into alleged trade secret leaks to Intel.

Authorities visited Lo’s residences in Taipei and Hsinchu days after TSMC filed a lawsuit accusing him of passing sensitive information to his new US employer.

Intel has denied the allegations, and Lo was not available for comment.

Lo, who previously led research and technology development at TSMC, left the company in July after more than 20 years.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said it is working with prosecutors to assess any impact on the chip industry and determine if national security laws were breached.

TSMC is a major contract chipmaker, and its technology is considered strategically important for Taiwan.
