Taiwan launches digital nomad visa for remote workers

Taiwan has launched a digital nomad visitor visa for citizens of visa-exempt countries, allowing stays of up to six months.

Applications opened quietly last week and target financially independent individuals who can provide proof of active work contracts.

Applicants aged 20-29 must have an annual income of at least US$20,000, while those over 30 need US$40,000.

They must also provide proof of average bank deposits of at least US$10,000 in the past six months, health insurance, and a resume detailing work contracts.

The visa is available to nationals from countries on Taiwan’s visa-exempt list, including the US, Australia, Japan, the UK, and several EU countries like France and Germany.

Currently, most visa-exempt nationals can visit Taiwan for up to 90 days without income verification, with an option for UK and Canadian visitors to stay up to six months.
