Taiwan industrial output hits record on AI chip demand

Taiwan’s industrial production rose 14.4% year-on-year in August, reaching an index level of 117.4, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

The manufacturing subindex, making up over 90% of total production, climbed 15.5% to 118.2, both marking record highs for August.

From January to August, the industrial production index increased 16.6% year-on-year, while manufacturing output was up 17.8%.

Electronics component production surged 31.5% in August, boosted by demand for AI and high-performance computing, with output rising from wafer foundries, IC designers, IC packaging and testing service providers, and IC substrate makers.
