Taiwan chipmaker Nanya plans $10.7b fab investment
Nanya Technology, a Taiwan-based chipmaker, plans to invest up to US$10.7 billion in Fab 5A by 2029 as it expands advanced memory output and benefits from demand left by larger rivals cutting conventional DRAM supply.
The fab is being built in New Taipei City’s Nanlin Technology Park under a phased project that began in 2022 and is expected to eventually reach 45,000 wafers per month.
Nanya was ranked fourth among global DRAM suppliers in the first quarter of 2026 with a 1.6% market share, well behind Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron, which together held more than 89%, according to TrendForce.
Nanya said Fab 5A will start wafer production in the second half of 2027 and reach 30,000 wafers a month in 2028 and 35,900 in 2029.
Nanya also raised this year’s equipment budget 34% to NT$69.7 billion (US$2.16 billion). Its July revenue rose 719.6% year on year to NT$43.87 billion (US$1.36 billion) as higher DDR4 prices lifted sales.
TrendForce said larger memory makers have prioritized production for higher-margin server DRAM, tightening conventional supply.
