Taipei, Nvidia set to sign HQ contract before Lunar New Year
Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an announced that the Taipei City government and Nvidia will sign a contract before the Lunar New Year to establish Nvidia’s Taiwan headquarters in the Beitou Shilin Technology Park.
The contract pertains to land rights for plots T17 and T18, with the city scheduled to review the land rights plan and royalties on February 4.
Following the review, there will be a valuation process, negotiations, and contract signing procedures.
The final agreement is expected before the Lunar New Year, which falls on February 17. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently visited Taiwan, meeting with local suppliers including TSMC and attending a company event.
The city’s land rights review and contract signing are part of Nvidia’s plans to develop its presence in Taiwan.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Nvidia’s headquarters deal went beyond a land grant
- The site was not vacant. Taipei’s city government had to end an earlier land use contract with Shin Kong Life Insurance, which won surface rights in 2021 1.
- Officials spent months negotiating. Taipei then repaid the insurer about NT$4.43 billion (US$142.85 million) under a mutual termination agreement 2.
- Nvidia also received government approval for a NT$3.3 billion (US$105 million) capital injection. The funds raise the capital of Nvidia Iconic Taiwan Co., a local subsidiary expected to support the Taiwan headquarters project in the Beitou Shilin Technology Park 3.
- The project also fits a broader Taipei City policy that offers grants and tax relief. Eligible costs include rent, employee compensation, and training 4.
Nvidia’s headquarters anchors Taipei’s ‘tech corridor’ plan
- Beitou Shilin Technology Park is Taipei’s third industrial technology park after Neihu Technology Park and Nankang Software Park. City officials have talked about linking Beitou with those areas under a “Taipei tech corridor” concept 5.
- The approach puts public works around a large company. Plans include new housing, eco-zones, and transit that support a regional ecosystem 6.
- Taipei is betting Nvidia will draw other globally competitive technology industries and innovative services. Targets include biotechnology, the internet industry, and cutting-edge technology research and development (R&D) across the roughly 94.38-hectare park 5.
