Tada to launch in US, Africa
Singapore-based ride-hailing platform Tada is expanding into the United States and Africa amid potential merger talks between Grab and GoTo.
After launching in Denver last July through a partnership with Drivers Cooperative Colorado, Tada plans a beta launch in New York City in May and an official launch in June, targeting a market about 1.5 to 2 times the size of Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing sector.
The company is looking to raise US$100 million to support growth in the US, Asia, and Africa, starting with Kenya in late 2026.
Its electric tuk-tuks, which offer higher earnings, are expanding to Cambodia and Kenya.
Tada’s founder Kay Woo also said the company is prepared to serve Indonesia if a merger or market opportunity arises.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Tadas fundraising target jumps far beyond its earlier rounds
- MVLLABS, Tadas Singapore-based parent, ties its zero-commission pricing to MVL blockchain infrastructure, which it argues keeps operating costs low 1.
- Earlier growth relied on relatively small checks, with MVLLABS Series A extension in May 2020 taking total Series A funding to just under US$10 million, led by South Koreas Shinhan Bank 2.
- Now the company is pursuing a US$100 million investment to expand across the US, Asia, and Africa, about ten times its total Series A haul and a clear change in capital needs 1.
A Grab-GoTo merger may leave room for smaller competitors
- Some analysts estimate a combined Grab and GoTo could reach market concentration in Indonesia as high as 99% for ride-hailing plus food delivery, while other ride-hailing estimates come in lower 3.
- That level of control may still leave an opening if regulators set limits, as Singapores competition regulator ruled Grabs 2018 purchase of Uber anti-competitive, then tracked higher prices and weaker incentives after rivalry shrank 3.
- Further consolidation may reshape strategies across Southeast Asia, with analysis suggesting large platforms such as Sea Limited may face pressure to pursue alliances or acquisitions 4.
