Synopsys joins NUS consortium for AI cooling research
Synopsys, a US-based engineering software company, said on October 28 that it had joined a National University of Singapore-led consortium to study cooling systems and digital twins for AI data centers in tropical climates.
The Sustainable Tropical Data Center Testbed Phase 2.0 consortium is hosted by NUS’s College of Design and Engineering. The collaboration will combine simulation, AI-assisted design, reduced-order modeling, and physical testing.
Initial research concepts include two-phase direct-to-chip cooling for AI accelerators and digital twins for predictive thermal management. Synopsys already offers electrothermal analysis tools and has promoted digital twins and AI for data center power and cooling.
The announcement comes as Singapore has introduced Southeast Asia’s first binding data center rules. Data center operators are also increasingly adopting direct-to-chip liquid cooling as AI workloads generate more heat than conventional air cooling can handle.
