Syfe to acquire Australian investing platform Selfwealth

Singapore-based investment platform Syfe has received approval to acquire Australian digital investing platform Selfwealth for A$65 million (US$41.7 million).

The acquisition was approved on April 22 by 88.46% of shareholders present, with 99.7% of votes cast in favor.

The deal values Selfwealth at 28 Australian cents (US$17.5 cents) per share and is expected to close on May 7, 2025 pending court and regulatory approvals.

Following the completion, Selfwealth will be delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange and rebranded as “Selfwealth by Syfe.”

Selfwealth’s platform will maintain its current features, while Syfe plans to introduce its technology and investment solutions to improve the user experience.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Consolidation trend intensifies in Asia-Pacific’s fintech landscape

Syfe’s acquisition of Selfwealth is part of a well-established pattern of consolidation among financial technology companies across the Asia-Pacific region over the past decade.

The A$65 million (S$54.5 million) all-cash offer for Selfwealth follows a series of strategic acquisitions in the region, including Experian’s purchase of Look Who’s Charging in 2019, EML Payments’ A$226 million acquisition of Prepaid Financial Services, and Equifax’s US$1.9 billion takeover of Veda Group in 20161.

This consolidation trend reflects the maturing fintech ecosystem where scale has become increasingly important for sustainable growth and competitiveness.

The 133% premium Syfe paid over Selfwealth’s pre-offer share price demonstrates the significant strategic value placed on established customer bases and regulatory licenses, particularly in an environment where organic growth is challenging.

For fintech companies across Asia-Pacific, acquiring existing platforms has proven more efficient than building from scratch in new markets, offering immediate access to customers, regulatory compliance frameworks, and market credibility.

2️⃣ Wealth platforms strategically target the mass affluent segment

Syfe’s acquisition specifically targets Australia’s growing mass affluent market, highlighting a strategic pivot among digital wealth platforms toward higher-value customer segments.

Australia has nearly 12 million individuals with investable assets exceeding US$100,000 (S$131,000), representing a massive opportunity for digital wealth managers seeking to scale their businesses2.
