Swiss robotics firm Voliro bags $23m to modernize infrastructure

Voliro, a Swiss aerial robotics company, has extended its series A funding round, raising a total of US$23 million.

The funding includes new participation from noa and a debt facility from UBS, with the original round led by Cherry Ventures. The investment will support the development and global deployment of Voliro’s autonomous aerial inspection robots.

The additional funding will enhance the Voliro T platform, including improvements in autonomy, modular payloads, and AI-powered inspection diagnostics. The company is working toward fully autonomous inspections to further integrate robotics into industrial operations.

These robots aim to address infrastructure maintenance challenges, enhance industrial safety, and manage workforce shortages in sectors such as energy, chemicals, and renewables.

The company serves a growing customer base of over 40 clients across 17 countries, including Chevron, Holcim, and Acuren. Its technology facilitates more than 100 contact inspections monthly, focusing on proactive maintenance to minimize downtime and lower costs.

Founded in 2019 and based in Zurich, Switzerland, Voliro is expanding its presence in the global market for industrial inspection solutions.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Aging infrastructure and workforce shortages create perfect market conditions for inspection robotics

The global infrastructure inspection market faces a dual crisis that Voliro is strategically positioned to address.

Studies show that up to 30% of major industrial accidents in Europe involve aging infrastructure and integrity issues, creating an urgent need for more frequent and thorough inspections 1.

This problem is compounded by a critical workforce shortage, with nearly 30% of certified Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) professionals over age 55 and fewer new entrants joining the field 2.

The economic stakes are enormous, as corrosion-related failures alone cost the global economy an estimated $2.5 trillion annually, making the case for preventative maintenance solutions increasingly compelling.

Voliro’s timing appears perfect as these converging challenges create not just a business opportunity but a critical safety imperative that traditional inspection methods cannot adequately address.

2️⃣ The economics of robotic inspection show clear ROI across multiple industries

Voliro’s technology demonstrates concrete economic advantages that explain why the company has attracted significant funding and enterprise customers.
