Swiggy to shut down its SaaS platform on Aug 10

Swiggy will discontinue its Minis platform on August 10.

Launched in 2022, Minis was a SaaS platform that allowed small businesses and D2C brands to build online stores without a website or app.

It operated on a zero-commission model and catered to creators, professionals, and local sellers of handmade goods and baked items.

The platform’s closure is part of Swiggy’s strategy to focus on its core businesses, such as food delivery and quick commerce, amid rising competition.

Minis had already been removed from Swiggy’s app over a year ago.

In May 2025, Swiggy also temporarily suspended its hyperlocal delivery service Genie in several cities due to operational challenges.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Platform diversification challenges persist in hypercompetitive markets

Swiggy’s shutdown of Minis follows a pattern of launched-then-discontinued initiatives, including the temporary suspension of their Genie delivery service earlier this year1.

The performance metrics reveal the fundamental challenge—Minis attracted only 5-10% of sellers’ traffic despite its zero-commission model, indicating insufficient adoption to justify continued investment2.

Swiggy’s experience demonstrates how even well-resourced companies struggle to maintain diversification initiatives when core businesses face intensifying competition, particularly in India’s hyperlocal delivery market where precise execution is critical3.

The company’s pivot away from Minis while simultaneously launching new services like the Crew concierge app reveals an ongoing strategic reassessment of which diversification efforts merit continued investment1.

2️⃣ SaaS market undergoes fundamental shift toward vertical specialization

Swiggy’s retreat from a horizontal SaaS offering aligns with broader market trends showing increased challenges for general-purpose platforms in 2025.

The timing is significant—SaaS companies experienced a dramatic growth slowdown in Q1 2025, with the highest average churn rates since measurement began, according to the ProfitWell B2B SaaS Index4.
