Swiggy partners with Sarvam to launch voice-led ordering
Swiggy has partnered with Indian sovereign AI startup Sarvam to add multilingual, voice-led commerce across its service.
Sarvam’s voice models will let users interact in 11 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi, to place orders and book tables using voice commands. It offers an end-to-end experience from discovery to payment.
It also demonstrated a phone call-based Instamart ordering flow that could work without a smartphone app or internet access, and it has launched on Sarvam’s AI-native chat app Indus for conversational ordering.
The rollout builds on its Model Context Protocol integrations and its work with payments firm Razorpay on agent-driven payments.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Sarvam is working on a national AI platform
- Sarvam AI calls itself “India’s Sovereign AI Platform” and plans a full-stack system for government and enterprise clients 1.
- It offers on-premises and private cloud setups for regulated sectors that need data to stay inside India’s borders 1.
- At least $41 million in funding supports that push, even as developers have raised early concerns about its models 2.
- Testers of a voice model prototype reported weak transcription and trouble separating speakers, which suggests the product offering is ahead of the underlying tech 3.
This partnership maps new rails for Indian e-commerce
- The Swiggy deal starts a three-layer plan to build commerce infrastructure rather than a single integration 4.
- Pilots begin on Sarvam’s AI-native chat app Indus, then move to direct website integrations such as The Derma Co, and later reach developers through Razorpay’s Agent Studio 4.
- The approach pairs Sarvam’s multilingual AI with Razorpay, a payments firm, and its payments infrastructure to create transactional AI agents that can complete purchases inside one conversation 5.
- The aim is to bring e-commerce to millions of Indians who use Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments, yet avoid English-first apps that feel hard to navigate 6.
