Suzuki shifts to hybrids, cuts EV plans

Suzuki Motor is adjusting its strategy by reducing investment in new EVs and increasing focus on hybrids.

Due to declining EV demand in India and Europe, the company will cut planned EV models for India from six to four and for Europe from five to four by fiscal 2030.

Instead, it will enhance hybrid production to align with market conditions.

The automaker aims for annual sales of 8 trillion yen (US$53 billion) by fiscal 2030.

In India, where Suzuki dominates, the company plans to boost natural gas vehicle sales and expand local production capacity for exports.

This shift follows broader industry trends. Honda plans to double hybrid sales by 2030, while Subaru has introduced a more fuel-efficient hybrid system.
