Superbank hits $1.3m in profit, gains 4 million users
Indonesia’s Superbank reported a net profit of 20.1 billion rupiah (US$1.3 million) and nearly 4 million customers in the year since it launched its digital banking application in June 2024.
The bank said that loan disbursements reached 8.4 trillion rupiah (US$525 million) in the first half of 2025, an increase of 123% year-on-year.
Total assets rose to 15 trillion rupiah (US$937.5 million), up 122% from the previous year, and third-party funds grew 748% to 8.4 trillion rupiah (US$525 million), according to Superbank.
Net interest income increased to 667.6 billion rupiah (US$41.73 million), and the company reported an improvement in its cost-to-income ratio and non-performing loan metrics.
Superbank attributes its growth to ecosystem integration and digital services through integration with platforms like Grab and OVO.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Ecosystem integration addresses Indonesia’s persistent digital banking engagement challenges
Superbank’s rapid customer acquisition demonstrates how strategic platform integration can overcome Indonesia’s historically low financial app engagement rates.
Research from 2018 showed that less than 40% of smartphone users engaged with financial services apps, and only 11% of digital finance app users engaged daily despite 140 available apps1.
By embedding banking services directly into Grab and OVO platforms that users already trust and use regularly, Superbank bypassed the typical customer acquisition hurdles that plague standalone financial apps.
This approach proves particularly effective given that Indonesian consumers have shown reluctance to adopt new financial platforms, with surveys indicating 50% of unbanked individuals saw no advantage in using digital wallets1.
The strategy of meeting customers where they already transact, rather than requiring them to download and learn a new banking app, appears to have resolved the engagement problem that has limited many Indonesian fintech companies.
2️⃣ Digital banks are capitalizing on Indonesia’s accelerating financial inclusion momentum
Superbank’s timing coincides with Indonesia’s dramatic shift toward financial inclusion, creating an optimal market entry window.
The country’s financial inclusion index nearly doubled over nine years, jumping from around 35% to approximately 84% by 2023, supported by over 180 million smartphones facilitating digital access2.
