Super Micro Taiwan office raided in China export probe

Taiwanese prosecutors raided Super Micro Computer’s Taiwan office on June 29 as part of a widening probe into alleged illegal exports of the US server maker’s Nvidia-based servers to China, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Keelung District prosecutors said they also searched the homes of six people and sites linked to three affiliated companies, including Chief Telecom Inc., a Taiwan-based data center operator, and Albatron Technology Co., a Taiwan-based distributor.

Super Micro said it was cooperating with Taiwanese authorities.

The raid comes as Taiwan weighs tighter AI export rules that could make unauthorized shipments to China a criminal offense for the first time.

Authorities currently do not treat such exports as crimes and instead rely on charges such as document falsification.

People familiar with the matter said Taipei is considering measures that would restrict AI chip sales to customers in China, not just blacklisted companies, broadly in line with US thresholds for advanced chips.

Super Micro shares fell as much as 9.2% in New York.
