Super Micro raises margin outlook, shares jump 15%
Super Micro Computer, a US-based server maker, said on July 21 that its June-quarter gross margin and adjusted gross margin should be 15% to 17%, up from the 8.2% to 8.4% range it gave in May.
Its shares rose 15% in extended trading. The company said the increase was primarily due to a favourable customer and product mix.
It expected revenue at the low end of its US$11 billion to US$12.5 billion guidance range, compared with analysts’ US$11.67 billion estimate compiled by LSEG.
The revised outlook marked a rebound from recent levels.
Super Micro reported a 9.9% gross margin in the fiscal third quarter of 2026, after 6.3% in the prior quarter, when management cited improving product mix, inventory management, and reduced tariff impacts.
The company said its backlog reached a record level by June 30, the end of fiscal 2026.
It also received more than US$60 billion in new fourth-quarter orders, which it expected to deliver over future quarters.
Demand for servers containing Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) used to run AI models also lifted rivals Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, whose shares rose in after-hours trading.
