Sundar Pichai launches $120m fund to bridge ‘AI divide’

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced Saturday the creation of a US$120 million Global AI Opportunity Fund aimed at supporting AI education and training in collaboration with local nonprofits worldwide.

This came as he warned of a widening global “AI divide,” indicating that disparities in access to AI technologies could worsen without proactive measures.

Speaking at the United Nations Summit of the Future, Pichai emphasized the necessity for effective regulatory frameworks to mitigate harm.

He cautioned against protectionist measures that could exacerbate existing inequalities in AI access.
