Substack launches scrollable video feed to compete with TikTok
Substack launched a new scrollable video feed on Mar. 31, similar to TikTok’s format. This update is part of Substack’s efforts to expand its video content offerings.
The feed includes video notes and clips from creators’ posts and builds on previous video initiatives.
Substack first introduced native video capabilities in 2022 and added an in-app Media Tab in 2024, which has been redesigned for the new feed.
The platform also introduced monetization options for video content, allowing creators to publish and earn through Substack.
As of February 2025, 82% of Substack’s top-earning writers use multimedia formats.
This launch places Substack in competition with platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn in the short-form video space, especially as TikTok faces potential regulatory challenges in the US.
