Strava confidentially files for IPO: report

Strava has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in recent weeks, according to a report by The Information.

Strava is a fitness tracking app company based in San Francisco.

The report said the IPO could take place as early as this spring.

Strava combines workout tracking with social networking features and saw increased usage during the pandemic.

A public listing would offer an exit opportunity for investors such as Sequoia Capital and TCV.

Reuters reported last year that Strava was seeking investment banks for a US IPO.

Strava was valued at US$2.2 billion in a funding round completed in May, which was led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Jackson Square Ventures, TCV, and Go4it Capital Partners, according to PitchBook.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Strava’s IPO timing depends on post-pandemic momentum

  • Revenue rose from $110 million in 2022 to $163.4 million in 2024, about 22–33% of CEO Mike Martin’s $500 million target 12. Valuation moved from $1.5 billion in 2020 to $2.2 billion in May 2025 13. Users reached 135 million in 2024 after 120 million in 2023, slower than the earlier pace near two million per month 13.
  • Premium costs $79.99 per year, leaving room to convert more free users without shaking its community-first culture 42. Public investors will look for faster gains than the roughly 23% revenue increase from 2023 to 2024 as pandemic fitness habits fade 1.

Marketers can use Strava brand tools before a potential IPO

  • Sponsored Challenges, time-bound in-app goals co-branded with advertisers, start at $30,000–$50,000 and drive strong engagement 567. CamelBak drew 149,000–223,000 people per campaign, while Hoka topped 175,000 for a running push 567. These native efforts can convert participants through reward redemptions on brand sites, which supports awareness and performance goals 567.
  • Brands can run Sponsored Segments, branded leaderboards tied to specific routes, around stores or events 86. Chipotle ran U.S. segment challenges, and The North Face built a Europe campaign 86. Early movers can lock category presence, with reach into a younger cohort, since Gen Z uploaded more than Gen X in 2023 86.
