Spotify’s Q2 2025 profit falls short of expectations
Spotify has forecasted a lower-than-expected operating profit for Q2 2025 due to increased payroll taxes, causing an 8% drop in shares during pre-market trading on April 29, 2025.
For the first quarter, Spotify reported an operating profit of 509 million euros (US$579.5 million), which was below analyst estimates.
The shortfall resulted from higher payroll taxes on employee salaries and benefits in various countries.
Spotify expects premium subscribers to reach 273 million in Q2, surpassing the 271.5 million projected by Visible Alpha.
The company also forecasts monthly active users to grow to 689 million, slightly exceeding analysts’ predictions.
CEO Daniel Ek remains confident about the company’s long-term prospects.
