🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Spotify focuses on higher-spending fans to drive growth
- Spotify now aims at listeners who use the service the most and will pay for more, instead of treating every subscriber the same, Spotify said 1.
- Audiobooks+ lets frequent listeners buy extra hours. It already has more than 1 million paying users beyond their subscriptions, Spotify said 1.
- These customers bring in several times the lifetime value of Premium-only users because they spend more and stay longer, Spotify said 1.
- The same approach now reaches creators through planned paid memberships and other earning tools, Spotify said 1.
Spotify leans on taste data in the AI era
- Spotify is skipping the cost of building its own general-purpose large language model (LLM). It plans to buy that technology on the open market, Spotify said 1.
- Its edge comes from using that intelligence with its Large Taste Model, Spotify’s in-house system for reading listener preferences, plus its own taste data and context. Users generate 3.4 trillion events and taste signals each day, Spotify said 1.
- As AI speeds up content creation, Spotify removed more than 75 million spammy tracks from the platform over the past 12 months, Spotify said 2.
- The strategy pairs personalization with platform cleanup as AI-made content spreads.
