Spotify says it made record $11b payout to music industry

Spotify paid over US$11 billion to the music industry in 2025, marking the highest annual payout from any retailer.

Independent artists and labels received half of all royalties.

Payouts grew more than 10% year-on-year, contributing to Spotify’s roughly 30% share of recorded music revenue.

More artists now generate over US$100,000 annually from Spotify than during the CD era.

The company said revenue growth has helped fund platform investments to support emerging artists through storytelling, video content, and verification measures.

Spotify plans to enhance tools for artist promotion, protect against impersonation, and strengthen connections with fans via playlists, live shows, and ticket sales.
