Spenmo founder said to launch AI finance startup for hotels
Mohandass Kalaichelvan, the former CEO and founder of Spenmo, has started Veridian, an AI company focused on finance operations for the hotel sector.
Sources said Kalaichelvan has raised or borrowed at least US$2 million for Veridian, with the capital likely coming from friends and family.
Acra filings show Kalaichelvan and Hans Ivander, another former Spenmo executive, as directors and shareholders, but no new preference shares have been issued.
Veridian was founded in 2023 and offers automated billing and account reconciliation tools for hotels, according to its website.
The website lists Tune Hotels, Ormond The Chow Kit, Momo’s Kuala Lumpur, and Millennium Hotels and Resorts as clients.
Kalaichelvan resigned from Spenmo in 2023 following an investigative report by DealStreetAsia about risk and compliance issues, and subsequent investor intervention; Spenmo has since rebranded as Summit.
Veridian did not respond to a request for comment.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Limited public disclosures make Veridian’s integration and certification status unclear
- Veridian’s site shows client logos. Public materials reviewed give no proof of live, paying deployments or integrations with leading property management systems (PMS) such as Oracle’s OPERA Cloud (a widely used hotel operations platform) or Mews (a cloud-based PMS). There is also no mention of accounting links to NetSuite (enterprise accounting) or Xero (SMB accounting), which many buyers expect in a finance ops tool.
- The hotel PMS market is moving to cloud-native platforms with open application programming interfaces (APIs) 1. Finance tools must connect seamlessly to fit this shift. Public materials reviewed do not list Veridian integrations, which raises questions about support for the API-first setups hotels now expect 1.
- Security certifications such as Service Organization Control 2 (SOC 2) or ISO-27001 (an international information security standard) now influence software choices in hotels 1. Veridian does not disclose whether it holds them. The sector has sharpened its focus on data privacy and compliance 2.
Fintechs and integrators can capture share by building connectors to leading PMS platforms
- Asia-Pacific’s hotel PMS market is growing at 12.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) 1. Independent properties hold 52.1% of revenue 1. Finance automation providers and integrators can build pre-certified connectors (pre-built integrations approved by the platform). Integrators are systems integrators that build and maintain software connections. Target PMS vendors used by small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in the region, such as Cloudbeds, eZee Technosys, or RMS Cloud 2.
- Revenue management modules are the fastest-growing PMS category at 14.4% CAGR 1. These tools adjust room prices based on demand. Finance operators who pair billing automation with these modules can offer bundles that improve cash flow visibility while supporting revenue optimization.
- Asia-Pacific hotels are moving to mobile-first PMS and QR-code payment ecosystems 1. Payment and reconciliation providers can map PMS market share by country. Focus areas include WeChat or Alipay (dominant mobile payment platforms) integrations in China 2 or General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-compliant systems in Europe 2. This mapping supports sharper partner choices where adoption is speeding up.
