Spanish startup Multiverse Computing launches free 60B AI model
Spanish AI startup Multiverse Computing has released a free, compressed version of its HyperNova 60B language model, aiming to make large models cheaper for deployment.
The company’s CompactifAI technology compresses models without significantly hurting performance. The HyperNova 60B 2602 model, now available on Hugging Face, uses less memory and delivers lower latency than much larger models such as OpenAI’s gpt-oss-120b.
Multiverse claims its model supports tool calling and agentic coding, addressing high inference costs. The company has expanded internationally, serving clients across energy, manufacturing, and financial services.
Reports say the startup is in talks for a large funding round following a US$215 million Series B and a public-sector collaboration in Spain

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Spain’s regional funding model supports corporate pilots
- Government backing includes a regional program in Spain, described by Multiverse CEO Sam Mugel, that pays part of the commercial risk when established industrial firms work with quantum startups 1.
- Mugel ties the program to business-to-business deals that can produce annual recurring revenue (ARR), a subscription-style metric that tracks predictable revenue, which he argues helps startups raise later-stage venture rounds 1.
The push for AI efficiency is reshaping the market
- Multiverse is betting that performance-per-dollar will matter more in buyer decisions than raw compute 2.
- Running very large models costs a lot, which opens room for compression tools. A third-party repost citing unnamed analysts puts the AI model compression market at $8.2 billion by 2028 2.
- Multiverse released a free model to attract developers, then route that interest into enterprise sales. A third-party repost links a similar playbook to European rival Mistral AI 2.
- The release also fits the rise of “sovereign AI,” meaning locally controlled AI models and infrastructure that offer regional options to U.S. tech giants and meet demand from European enterprise customers 3.
