SpaceX’s Starship completes milestone 10th test flight
SpaceX’s Starship rocket completed its tenth test flight on August 26, 2025, achieving key milestones after previous setbacks.
The 403-foot vehicle launched from Starbase, SpaceX’s facility in Texas, at 7:30 pm ET following two earlier aborted attempts.
After liftoff, the rocket’s Super Heavy booster separated and successfully performed a targeted splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico, testing backup landing engines for the first time.
The upper stage, known as Starship, reached space and opened its payload door to release eight Starlink mass simulator satellites, a capability not previously demonstrated.
SpaceX also re-lit a Raptor engine in orbit and guided the Starship upper stage to a splashdown in the Indian Ocean, maintaining communications throughout the test.
During reentry, the vehicle’s upgraded thermal protection system and new tile designs were evaluated under high heat conditions.
The company continues to address technical challenges as it works toward future missions, including potential crewed lunar landings for NASA.
