SpaceX-owned Cursor launches Origin as GitHub falters
Cursor, an AI coding startup now owned by SpaceX, has launched Origin as GitHub faces renewed reliability concerns.
Origin is in early beta and available on all paid plans.
It lets developers host code repositories and manage pull requests in Cursor. GitHub repositories can sit alongside native Origin repositories.
For repositories that start on GitHub, GitHub remains the source of truth, while discussions sync both ways.
The launch coincided with a GitHub outage that lasted more than six hours. A LeadDev analysis logged 257 incidents on GitHub between May 2025 and April 2026, including 48 disruptions classified as major.
GitHub remains the dominant code-hosting platform. The company said in October 2025 that 180 million developers used the service.
