SpaceX seeks $40b for Nvidia chips: sources

SpaceX, Elon Musk’s US-based rocket and satellite company, is seeking US$40 billion to buy Nvidia chips, according to people familiar with the matter.

Apollo Global Management is expected to lead the financing.

The package would include about US$10 billion in bank loans and US$30 billion in investment-grade debt. Bond fund Pimco is among the lenders in talks.

The transaction is expected to close in 2027.

In June, SpaceX targeted a US$1.75 trillion valuation in an all-secondary share sale.

The company also received investment-grade credit ratings with stable outlooks from ratings agencies.

Separately, Apollo’s president said funding AI spending would take “all the markets”, including bank loans, bonds, and private credit.

SpaceX, Apollo, Nvidia, and Pimco did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
