SpaceX completed its US$60 billion acquisition of Cursor on August 14, according to a regulatory filing.

The deal deepens Elon Musk’s push into AI software and coding tools as he competes with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Cursor is developed by Anysphere, a San Francisco-based software startup founded in 2022 by four Massachusetts Institute of Technology students.

Its AI assistant helps programmers write and debug code.

Grok is now under the same corporate umbrella after xAI became a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX in February 2026 and was later rebranded as SpaceXAI.

A deal of this size would normally face the US Hart-Scott-Rodino premerger review because transactions above US$535.5 million are generally reportable unless an exemption applies.
