Spacetech startup Bellatrix raises $20m funding
Bellatrix Aerospace, a Bengaluru-based spacetech startup, has raised US$20 million in a funding round led by Cactus Partners to scale its satellite propulsion manufacturing and expand overseas deliveries.
The round also saw participation from Hero Investment Office, 35 North Ventures, Indusbridge Ventures, and Monarch Holdings, along with existing investors.
Founded in 2015, Bellatrix develops electric and “green” propulsion systems for satellites. The company said it will use the funds to add production capacity and support customer programs in India and abroad.
CEO Rohan Ganapathy said its core technologies have been flight-qualified, while COO Yashas Karanam added that production lead times have been reduced to under six months.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Funding targets order backlog and production ramp
- The investment will help Bellatrix work through a multi-million-dollar order backlog and shift from flight-qualified technologies to large-scale commercial production 1.
- The production push follows a recent commercial win. Bellatrix has started shipping to its first undisclosed customer outside India 2.
- The move to higher-volume output matters because the company was largely pre-revenue in its last reported financial year. It recorded ₹1.75 crore in revenue and ₹25.27 crore in losses 3.
An Indian propulsion maker’s overseas expansion tracks a broader shift
- Bellatrix’s expansion suggests the Indian spacetech sector is moving past domestic government work with organizations like the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and toward international commercial customers 2.
- The company is also widening its scope beyond propulsion components. A 2021 memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SatSure, an Indian satellite data company, included plans for a microsatellite platform to host SatSure’s payloads (the instruments a satellite carries to do its mission) 4.
- The round fits a larger pattern in the market. Private investment in Indian spacetech nearly doubled in 2025, while several large venture funds were set up to support the growth 5.
