South Korea regulator extends probe into Coupang Pay data leak

The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has extended its inspection of Coupang Pay until January 30 amid ongoing investigations into a data leak at Coupang.

The review, which began on January 12, focuses on whether personal information was compromised through Coupang Pay, linked to Coupang’s broader system.

A separate on-site inspection at Coupang started in November and lasted six weeks.

Coupang Pay delayed submitting requested materials, citing internal approval processes as a US corporation.

The FSS considers Coupang Pay’s cooperation inadequate and may impose legal sanctions, including fines, if non-compliance continues.

Authorities plan to conclude the current review this week and decide on further actions afterward.
